Word of the Week…en Français!
un bleuet /uhn{œ̃}/ /bløɛ/ (masculine noun)
The North American blueberry. Widespread across Quebec, the Great Lakes, and the entire St. Lawrence River region, it is an important part of French Canadian cuisine. In France ‘un bleuet’ is a cornflower, while the ‘myrtille’ is their blueberry. ‘Les bleuets’ is the nickname for inhabitants of the region of Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec where an abundance of wild and farmed blueberries are found, forming the basis for local industry.
