Word of the Week…en Français!
récolte /ʀekɔlt/ (feminine noun)
Crops; the harvest and harvesting itself. Agriculture was a major part of life for settlers in New France, although the farms that were built, particularly in the Detroit region, were generally small-scale. Farmers then often dedicated the winter to the fur trade. Some farms in the Petite-Côte (LaSalle) area of Ontario are still operated by the same families that started them in the 18th century.
