Mangeur de lard /mɑ̃ʒœʀ/ /de/ /lar/
“Pork-eater.” A young, inexperienced fur trader. A novice or greenhorn. This term was used by voyageurs and coureurs du bois in reference to the beginners ‘experiencing their first hardships’ of life on the canoes.
