Nain Rouge /nɛn ʀuʒ/ folklore character

“Red Dwarf.” The Nain Rouge is a character found in French Canadian folklore, namely the story of  “The Nain Rouge” but also in “The May Pole” and “Sans Souci and Okemos” all of which can be found in Legends of le Détroit. This folkloric figure is native to Detroit and today is the subject of the Marche du Nain Rouge, a kind of reverse mid-Lenten Mardi Gras or early Spring ritual, carried out on the first Sunday of Spring by the people of Detroit.
