Word of the Week…en français
fier, fière /fjɛʀ/ masc/fem adjective
Proud
Although this is not a Canadian-specific French word, I use it to start the new season of Voyageur Heritage for a couple of reasons. It is frequently used by people on social media profiles to describe their identity: “Fier Franco-Ontarien” “Fière Franco-Ontarienne” “Fier d’être Québécois”: Proud Franco-Ontarian, Proud to be Québécois. Secondly, September 25 is Franco-Ontarian Day and in Michigan, French-Canadian Heritage Week is September 29- October 5. It’s a good time of year to be a “Fier Canadien-Français / Fière Canadienne-Française!”
