Word of the Week…en français
crèche de noël /kʀɛʃ/ /də/ /nɔɛl/ feminine noun
The Christmas manger scene found throughout the world in homes, churches, and communities. This traditional scene is as central to holiday decorations as the Christmas tree (sapin de noël.) It is composed of figurines of the infant Jesus, Mary, Joseph, the three wise men, angels, shepherds, animals, and others. The tradition of santons, hand-made figurines, is found in Québec. Artisans include special subjects such as voyageurs, first nations, famous people and Québécois villagers.
