Several years ago, in 2014 and 2016, two papers I authored were accepted for publication in The Michigan Historical Review. “Muskrat French: Origins of a Culture, a Language, and a People” and “A Métis Family in the Detroit River Region and Pays d’en Haut” explore the culture, history, and genealogy of French Canadians and Métis in the region from the 17th century.

Although these articles remain available through subscription of scholarly databases, they are not readily available to non-academics who do not have access to such sources. Due to the ongoing interest in these articles on Voyageur Heritage, I have self-published these articles in a small booklet “French-Canadians, Muskrats and Métis: Descendants of the Early Great Lakes Voyageurs & Habitants.”

The essays have been lightly edited for grammatical mistakes missed in original editing and contain all of the images from the original publication.
